 Sites to help with UK research

  •  Free Bmd  - free access to an index to English and Welsh births, marriages and deaths from 1837.
  • General Register Office - the official site to use if you want to obtain and English or Welsh birth, marriage or death certificate. Other sites may charge you more.
  • Findmypast – a subscription site containing many UK records, including many Devon parish registers. Access to the indexes is free.
  • Ancestry - a subscription site giving access to many records.
  • Histpop – Interesting information about UK population statistics.
  •  Friends of Devon Archives – includes indexes of tithe schedules and freeholders’ lists for Devon parishes.
  • Discovery Catalogue – The National Archives’ index to archive collections in England and Wales.
  • Cornwall On-line Parish Clerks’ Database – a key resource for Cornish research.
