• Free Bmd - free access to an index to English and Welsh births, marriages and deaths from 1837.

• General Register Office - the official site to use if you want to obtain English or Welsh birth, marriage or death certificates. Other sites may charge you more.

• Findmypast – a subscription site containing many UK records, including most Devon parish registers. Access to the indexes is free.

• Ancestry - a subscription site giving access to many records.

• GENUKI - information about United Kingdom Genealogy, particularly good coverage for Devon and Cornwall.

• Family Search - a free website with indexes to records and some images.

• Histpop – Interesting information about UK population statistics.

• Discovery Catalogue – The National Archives’ index to archive collections in England and Wales.

• Probate Service - search for and order copies of wills proved in England and Wales from 1858 onwards.
